Designer baby

The idea of designing human was science friction. But now we are doing it. In 2018 a chines scientist He Jiankui design twin girls with a gene-editing technique called CRISPER. Due to his experiment, the baby girls are now resistant to HIV which causes AIDS. The parents participated in this experiment because the father was HIV positive.

But some scientists are worried! Because it is unethical and maybe only the rich can afford it. It will create a difference in society. Or maybe editing can affect other genes in the body

DNA is a hereditary material in almost all organisms. It means it can pass on to generations. Our traits are present in DNA, Like the color of eyes, hairs, genetically disease everything that we get from our parents. If we edit DNA we can change the appearance or eradicate a genetic disorder.

How can we edit a baby?

If we cut DNA at a specific place and take out the faulty or unwanted gene. The DNA then uses a synthetic sequence that replaces the faulty one and strands of DNA will put back together.

There are 3 technique for designer baby

Preimplantation genetic Diagnosis- it involves choosing between viable eggs for the best satisfied the parents want. For example, terminating pregnancy based on gender or disease (mostly, down syndrome).
TALEN’s- these are enzymes that are designed to remove and replace specific parts of DNA strands. It is used to design plants and pets.
CRISPR- it is more precise for removing and replacing specific parts of DNA strands.
